I thought I would have most of my sh*t together by this point in my life.

I usually think I do. The unexpected happens to show me that I do not have most of my sh*t together.

I found Sarah Knight’s books on Pinterest from recommended reading lists, so I splurged on her book, Get Your Sh**t Together, one weekend to see what I was missing.

I think I went back and bought the rest of her collection the next weekend.

When you think about getting your sh*t together, I imagine you think everything will be calmer and more organized in your life.

I quickly realized that that is not the case. However, Sarah allowed me to come to that realization throughout her book slowly. It did feel like she had been as blunt as possible at times, but in a nice as possible kind of way.

That said, Sarah makes her knowledge as easy to digest as possible. She makes you take small bites and slowly chew while she makes her case on how you can get your life together. The meal she gives you might be bland or unappetizing, but you’ll be full by the end of the book.

Her most significant premise is comparing personalities to Alvin and the Chipmunks. Throughout the book, she continues this theme and compares each of her sections with the three different chipmunks in mind.

As for myself, I fall in the realm between Theodore and Simon. As I read through Get Your Sh*t Together, I tended to lean more towards Sarah’s recommendations to Simon personalities. However, that’s not to say I didn’t read through all of Sarah’s advice regardless of her character choice.

One of my favorite aspects of this book is that Sarah never identifies the result of getting your sh*t together. It is based on you, and she offers the road map that might help you get there.

This perspective shows throughout her other books, You Do You and The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**ck. Sarah solely gives you a roadmap accompanied by her own experiences to help get you to where you want to be.

For example, Sarah comments on how to develop a strategy to achieve your goals. She even helps determine how you can instill different methods depending on what you are tackling and what is deterring you from your goals.

You can start by creating a to-do list for the end of the day or the end of the week. On the other side, Sarah talks about focusing more on your goals and less on the impulsive and distracting things getting in our way. Plus, she doesn’t leave out the pop culture and movie references to help you relate.

If you don’t feel like you have time to read Get Your Sh**t Together, Sarah has you covered. I’d recommend her edition of Get Your Sh**t Together Journal. This version gives the same lifestyle and organization tips that Sarah provides in the book, but even shorter snippets, and you don’t need to worry about not writing in a book.

Get Your Sh*t Together Journal is excellent if you want to read a few quick tips on the road. You can keep the journal in your purse or stick it in a portfolio if you have a few minutes between meetings.

Despite the profanities, Get Your Sh**t Together, and the other books in the No F*cks Given series are a great way to get your life together in the simplest way possible.
