It wasn’t until I received my first set of business cards and my name tag that I felt official in my new position.
You can say I had acclimated to my desk amicably. My coworkers were great and my boss was helpful as well as reassuring. I was on the payroll. There’s nothing to say that I wasn’t official in my new position.
But having those small, little tokens that helped you be visually a part of the company you’re connected to, helped me associate with the company.
Even throughout my time as a new employee, it felt nice receiving a letter from the upper-management on the official letterhead rather than a branded email. You could feel the tangible proof that you were a part of this bigger picture.
If you’ve started your business start-up yet, you’ve probably felt the same at some point.
You might have a brand you're proud of with your new business fleshed out on the new business cards you’ve ordered. Maybe you’ve been able to promote your version of an Apple sticker with your new products. Or you’ve been able to make a contract official with your personalized letterhead for the new hire you’ve brought on.
In the scheme of things, business materials can be trivial. But having professionally printed products on quality products can make a world of difference for a small business start-up.
My one-stop-shop is moo.com. They have a variety of styles and options that I can select from with a great track record. And when you don’t have a graphic designer on hand to design your business materials for you, they have plenty of templates and style options to help guide you through the process.
Here are some of my favorite selections to sort through when I create a new designs:
I especially like moo.com for their business card selection.
Not only do they have reasonable prices for their products, but they also have options as to their variety. They offer an assortment of styles, textures, foils, even sizes for you to brand your business card in a way that will set you apart from your competition.
Most sets start at 50 cards and allow you to customize your size of card how you wish. There are a lot of options to choose from, which varies your price range, but anything standard would usually cost $20-30.
Also, keep in mind, business cards from moo.com print on both the front and back on a thicker paper than a standard card. Not only will you have a full-color print on both sides, but you will make your business stand out with a quality card from the competition.
Postcards are making a big comeback for some industry’s business materials.
Postcards allow a business to market a function or a service to a mass audience without losing the tangible product for customers to interact with. It might not be as small as a business card but postcards are fairly effective when printed with quality supplies and information.
Postcards come in packs starting at 25, which can seem small for a starting business but allows you to start with a close and loyal customer base. Depending on the paper type, you are also looking between $20-50 for starting prices.
Same as business cards, postcards come in a variety of sizes and added styles but not as many as your standard business card. Foil and sizing are the most typical embellishments to be considered.
I love using stickers as a promotional tool. They’re fairly inexpensive to invest in and people tend to find a variety of ways to use them.
My favorite aspect of designing stickers with moo.com is that they are so inexpensive for so many stickers. The stickers might not be huge, but they are fairly inexpensive, about $10-20, with 50-90 stickers in the starting stacks. Smaller stickers are about the size of a paperclip with a larger version about the size of a nametag.
Knowing that stickers don’t have to fairly elaborate, I find stickers as an easy way to attract clients and retain loyal customers. They allow a small brand recognition with less of an investment, along with being fairly useful with the right materials.
So whether you use your business’ stickers for packing labels or keeping kids entertained in your store, your starting investment for gaining brand recognition will be worth it.
Now that you’re an official business, it’s time to have some official letterhead to match.
You probably don’t need a lot of fancy letterhead papers when you start, which is why moo.com’s starting pack of 50 sheets is great for growing companies. Letterhead is primarily used when associating through an official capacity, like working with non-profits for donations or sponsorship opportunities. Even if you don’t feel like you’ll be doing those things, it’s probably better to have some physically on hand, just in case.
Letterhead can be fairly straightforward, but moo.com does allow you to have more creative liberty on both sides of the sheets. You can design backs to the sheets however you wish and can add additional styles depending on the page. That’s potentially room for 50 different styles on the back of your letterhead, but I’d stick to maybe 2-3 versions.
Being bigger, it’s no surprise that letterhead might cost you a bit more, about $60, but if you don’t plan on using it much at first, that’s still a good investment over a few months.
Like postcards, greeting cards have been making a comeback as well.
While a standard postcard can get the point across, having a custom, branded greeting card can help you stand out from your competitors. Not only are you putting thought into sending a physical mailing piece, but you are also connecting your target audience with your branded material. Even if you don’t use it as a greeting card, you still provide a personal touch rather than a digital version that could easily be swept aside.
moo.com’s greeting cards allow you to customize not only the front side but the back and insides as well. Customizing the cards to fit your needs, with complimentary envelopes with your purchase, allow you to create a card that fits your business’ needs.
Also similar to postcards, greeting cards start in packs of 25, which are great for beginning businesses.
moo.com isn’t lacking other creative ways to brand and market your business start-up. They also create soft and hard-cover notebooks, cardholders, menus, and flyers. I especially enjoy their new soft-cover journals.
